Thankful

I am thankful for those clossest to me, But I am most thankful for those people who have recently come into my life. College has been rough an those people who have stepped up when they had no reason for doing so, they mean the most.

Thanksgiving thoughts

I think the idea of Thanksgiving is the epitome of all family holidays. One night when a whole family sits down to eat and enjoy each others company is one of the rarest events current history has to offer. I don't know if the story will live on but I think the idea is immortal.

quantum of solace

I recently went to see the new James bond film, In it Bond continues where he left off, questioning a man about the death of a woman he loved. The movie goes on to lead bond through a series of twists and turns which eventually leads him to the true killer of his girlfriend and the retribution he feels he deserves. The movie itself is not the best bond film but all in all the movie out does the previous film ten fold. The movie is "Powerful". The film has many good qualities but my personal favorite is the depiction of current espionage. Overall I say the movie is a must see.

post-peer review realization

After reading the peer review I realize many of my thoughts about my papers strengths and weaknesses were dead on, however the reviewer pointed out that there was some stuff mentioned in my essay he/she did not know about and in my final draft my main priority is I plan to include explanations because for me to get my point across to my readers they need to understand what I am talking about. My other priority is to incluede more feeling so my essay isnt so robotic sounding.

Pre-peer review strengths and weaknesses

Before I turned in my paper for review today II thought my papers biggest strength is that it is chuck full of information and gives a very compelling argument on why alternative energies are an amazing investment! The biggest weakness I saw in it was the fact that I think my essay sounds to robotic and seems to show little real feeling, but its hard to show feeling about a research paper totally based on science.

intro. Paragraph

Ralph Nader once said "The use of solar energy has not been opened up because the oil industry does not own the sun." and he is right, but not just about solar energy; every alternative energy source that can be explored is only just now being touched not because we havent known about them but because we as a nation have never felt the need to look into them. I say now is the time, in fact I probably would have said the same thing 20 years ago and all the fuss over foriegn oil would have become a much lesser concern then it is now. The point I am trying to make is that political figures going as far back as Pres. Jimmy Carter have been giving us the option to look into alternative energy sources, but now we no longer have that option in fact I believe that in order to salvage our economy and push forward into the future we should take serious research interest in alternate fuel sources including but not limited to solar, Hydrogen, and bio fuels.

Flying Blind(Litrally)

Jim O'Neill, a 65-year old pilot, suffered a stroke a 5, 500 ft in the air and ended up (with lots of help) landing his plane Blind. The 65 year old pilot was flying in a Cessna plane on Friday when suddenly he was blind. The pilot scared and feeling helpless called for help over the radio. A nearby Royal Air Force pilot finishing up a practice run nearby answered the call and helped guide the pilot to safety by talking him through it. The author seems simply amazed by this story and frankly so am I. Being an Air Force ROTC cadet I have seen how complicated flying can be first hand and as far as I am concerned it is an incredible feat to land a plane blind (no matter how long you have been flying). The story gives us details but I want to know How landing this pilot really landed a plane Blind? the whole idea is just mind boggling.

naysayer

one naysayer I have encountered (the peoples almanac) is particularly against solar power. They say first that solar power power is tricky because you must find a way to store it which I agree is tough because of the conversion it goes through to become usable power but it is not impossible. The entry goes on to say that solar energy is also hard to collect, this worry has in recent years become less and less of a problem due to new research into better solar panels and better conversion methods. The last thing the article goes on to point out is the amount of money needed to create a power system solely reliable on solar power. It is true that solar power is expensive to invest in now but just like any past enterprise, if you research it enough, newer, cheaper, more efficient solar power systems will be developed. My thesis was not really affected by this article.

Paper 4 thesis

I believe that in order to salvage our economy and push forward into the future we should take serious research interest in alternate fuel sources including but not limited to solar, Hydrogen, and bio fuels.

response post

5 men were found shot dead in a california homeless camp recently. The police are working on leads but nothing solid has been found yet. The authors tone in this report seems slightly concerned but mostly confused as to what these 5 people could have done to die? I personally am asking the same question, Who are these 5 homeless people? and why were they murdered?

Time management

It is a well known fact that time mangement and college go hand in hand. If students come to college challenged and unprepaired to manage their time they most likly fail. To aid in the time management colleges offer help from councelers as well as suggesting the buying of a planner. For me time has become a constant unresolved issue that plauges me non-stop! for this reason alone I cannot merely give one instance where time has been an issue without summurizing my whole college career to date. So instead I will give just a few things that make time management harder and harder. The first thing on this list is of course my job, I work anywhere from 10 to 20 hours a week and the worst part is that my work times fluctuate;with such a volitile work schedual I can rarely find a steady time to study or coordinate a steady sleep schedual. Anthoer time consumer is AFROTC. I want to be an active member but just doing the bare minimum is time stressing. These among others are constant, royal pains that all contribute to my alaways changing time schedual.

Sins of the (Grand)father? (Revised)

A 6 year old boy who was abducted 4 days ago is now back safe with his family and police say his grand daddy may be to blame! 4 days ago Cole Puffinburger was abducted from his mothers home by two armed men posing as police officers. The boy was found on a side street by a bus driver near a Methodist church. Law Enforcement Officials have now arrested the boy's grandfather whom they believe stole millions from drug dealers and was supposed to pay it back in ransom demands. While the author of this piece seems rather objective I think the Grandpa should fry! anyone who steals money from drug traffickers is only asking for trouble. What the man should have done is gone to the police and told them about the traffickers instead of stealing from them. Most other news articles are giving sympathy towards the boy, but are just as suspicious of the Grand-dad as I am. My question: How did this grandpa find out about this drug ring in the first place?

research paper

I have been thinking about writing my research paper on alternative energy sources. I am interested in this particular topic because I believe that a change to alternate energy sources would boost our economy by limiting our reliance on foreign oil and other foreign sources. I believe that this is a decision that needs to be made in order for our country to advance further into the future.

farovite reads

I love to read a wide variety of books but most of them focus on a few themes that still drive me today. Mostof the things I read are either muder mysteries or fantasy war books. I find that I myself want to go into the field of policing and I think that these novels probably had some influence on my educational career path today. As far as the fantasy war books go, I find that if you equate most things in life to war then by studying the great generals of the past you can find a way to solve many of the prblems life throws at you both economically and personally.

collaboration

I have had many projects in the past that have required working with others, most of them have always seemed that I have had to do a good amount of the work. I remember my first time working on a real big school project with anyone was in the 8th grade. I was partnered with a real smart@$$ who really didn't want to do any work. although I managed to push him to do most of the preliminary work I was still the one who ended up doing the main part of the project so it is nice whenever I get to do a collaborative project that has group members who all will pitch in.

Financial Crisis

This financial crisis is nothing new. Serious recessions have been happening for ever since 1926. Personally I don't own any stock so I cant say that I feel any ones pain nor can I claim to know how they feel. What I can say and What I think the author of this article is trying to point out is that recessions are always cause for worry because money is needed to live and while these recessions come and go everyone does have a severe impact on almost everyone in one way or another. Almost any other news source would say just about the same thing. Its simple our economy has always fluctuated and will continue to fluctuate. If I could ask a financial advisor one thing though it would be: why has our economy suffered so many recent recessions instead of its normal pattern?

benefits and difficulties of peer review.

There are many benefits as well as difficulties to peer review. To anyone who does not know what peer review is this is a written review by someone in the same class as the writer being evaluated. The benefits are that you can learn from others what you can improve on while seeing if your composition is at all interesting to other readers. Peer review also allows you to make any corrections necessary before sending it in for grading or publishing. Peer reviews however also have downsides. The first of these is also one of the benefits and that is that you get constructive criticism (sometimes more criticism than constructive). Second, after peer reviews you often have to go back and revise parts of your paper. These reviews also may not always be what you had hoped and you often have to go back and sometimes even revise the entire paper .

ad assignment

The ad is about car repair and customization. This ad uses the images it does because they are flashy but do not take away from the ad text. The written text meshes more with the images then it takes away from them.

week 4/pt. 1 summary

Part 1 of "They say, I say" is segmented in to 3 sub-parts: piece 1-"they say", Piece 2 "her point is", and point 3 "as he himself puts it"
Part 1-They say. This section in short summarizes the introduction and uses on what others say with out using exact quotes. The section goes on to explain that while quotes would be normally used for exact sentences; whole sections of books or reports can be summarized used in the techniques used in "they say"
Part 2-Her point is. The next section in question solely based on the large subject of summarizing techniques. The basis of the section is the basic when, where and how of how to use a summary correctly.
Part 3-As he puts himself. The last section of part 1 is based completely on quotes. The section goes on to explain the correct or incorrect use of quotes can either make or break any kind of paper.

week 4/ ex. 1/ quotes

"The attack on the hotel is a message to the Pakistani leadership: End all cooperation with the Americans or pay the price." was a quote given in an article over a recent bombing by Pakistani professor Bryan Glyn Williams.
In this particular article the writer inserts this quote in the beginning of a paragraph to show the support of the Pakistani views that the u.s. should cut its alliance with Pakistan. there are no suggestions I would make for this article.

Texting Causes Trainwreck?(Response/week 3)

Another texting debacle? A train wreck in Los Angeles during the 7'o clock hour on Monday is being investigated after two teenagers came forward claiming to be texting the engineer while the train was moving. The train itself did not stop at a stop signal and barreled head on into an oncoming train killing 25 people and injuring 138 more. This is being recorded as the worst train collision in 15 years.

My reaction to this is simple. Texting is a hazard while driving any kind of vehicle. It is true that proper safety measures for incidents like these have been approved but not instigated. that however does not relieve the engineer of all responsibility. although nothing has been proven for sure I still See this lapse in judgement as just one more reason why texting should be disabled or outlawed by any kind of transportation workers. If its your life you are endangering, that's your choice, but when you endanger the lives of others then you cross a line and I feel the author of this news article(posted below) would agree with me. As my old history teacher used to say "your right to swing your fist ends where the other guys nose begins".

week 3/assignment 2 (Common Misconception)

In the past few years there has been a growing number of people who have gained this very weird and very wrong idea that all Muslims and all Muslim nations are terrorist cells hell bent on destroying the U.S. This idea was more of a minor one up until the September 11th attacks. with the war on terror going on this "Common misconception" has been blown out of proportion by the media as well as some popular entertainment i.e. stand up comics, the movie team America, etc...

The truth is while many Muslims may not LOVE the U.S. they do not in specific all want to kill us. most of them dislike Americans mainly for the fact that they have so much and they take it all for granted while most Muslim countries are disease riddled and impoverished. It is true that many Muslim nations will give safe harbor to terrorist cells but the beliefs of the corrupt leaders of Muslim governments does not reflect that of all Muslims. They are not as bad as the media has made them ALL out to be.

week 3/assgnment 1

I am not entirley sure yet what all I will utilize from what I learned in the reading assignment. I do know that I will be using a chronological organizing system as well as relating as much to any reading audience as I possibly can.
